The penalties for assault offenses vary depending upon the circumstances around the assault, and the extent of the injuries sustained by the victim. To illustrate, a person may be found guilty of first degree assault when they seriously harm someone else using a deadly weapon or instrument. On the other hand, they may be found guilty of third degree assault if they intentionally or recklessly cause such harm to another person.
